Generating a post event survey to attendees within 1-3 days after the event is over is often helpful with planning annual or repetitive events. Seeking feedback from what worked well, what didn’t work, and what could be better next time helps to lay out the foundation for planning the next one.

Surveys do not have to be long. 5-10 questions with a mix of scale rating and opportunity to add comments is usually recommended. Also, a survey should not take more than 10 minutes to fill out.

Participation is key to a successful survey. Offering an incentive helps to get attendees to fill out the survey. As a value-added practice, one of The Event Concierge’s clients offers a copy of their speaker’s presentation slides as an incentive for completing/submitting the survey. Another client was looking for feedback on the company and offered a pizza party if the company had at least 85% participation from all the staff…. They succeeded!

Surveys can either be online or in written format.

  • Written format is recommended during on on-site meeting and are submitted as attendees leave.

  • Online surveys can be emailed with periodic reminders sent to fill it out. Online surveys offer reporting tools that may make it easier to create metrics and outcomes. SurveyMonkey is a popular choice for this option.
