COVID-19 and the Pandemic of 2020 has introduced us to some new lingo. Just as the meetings and events industry, as well as hospitality in general, has their own set of phrases and terms, it seems like the pandemic created some new phrases too.

Who heard of phrases such as “flatten the curve” before COVID-19? How many of us are tired of the word, “pivot”? What about “the new normal”?

A new phrase I heard recently in a Zoom meeting was “Work-cation.”  This is spending time working remotely from other places.  Resort hotels are monopolizing on this and offering a hotel stay to people who want to get away but still be able to work. The internet may be faster and better at these remote locations. Kids can access their online classroom during the day and have access to safe activities after class; while parents continue to work. What a concept!

One last new term is “quaran-team” or “COVID bubble”, which is a group of people you voluntarily choose to socialize with or even live with during the quarantine.  This may include your family, close friends and/or neighbors.  All members promise to not have close contact with others outside of the group. Many people during this pandemic have identified their “quaran-team” so they can still socialize safely in these times of social distancing, which can be very lonely without the company of others.

“Whether you decide to ‘pivot,’ experience a ‘work-cation,’ or create a ‘quaran-team,’ The Event Concierge hopes you continue to stay healthy and safe.”

It is not uncommon for people to ask what we do here at The Event Concierge, that answer is forever evolving as we will do whatever it takes to make our client’s meeting, banquet, or event a success.
